Celebrating 35 Years: Campbelltown District Family History Society’s Milestone Event
Glenalvon House, August 3, 2024
On a pleasant winter afternoon, members and friends of the Campbelltown District Family History Society gathered at the historic Glenalvon House to celebrate a remarkable milestone—the 35th anniversary of the Society’s foundation. The sun peeked through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the well-tended lawns—a fitting backdrop for an organisation dedicated to preserving the past.
The Life Membership Award
As the day progressed, former president, Mick Murphy took the stage to present Robert Palmer with the coveted life membership award—a plaque that symbolised not just years of service to the Society but a commitment to preserving the past. Robert gracefully accepted the honour, surrounded by applause and warm embraces.
Sunshine, Stories, and Shared Memories
The weather gods smiled upon us that day. The sun remained steadfast, casting its glow on the historic sandstone walls of Glenalvon House. Conversations flowed freely—a mix of personal anecdotes, research triumphs, and tales of elusive ancestors.
A Day to Remember
As the afternoon shadows lengthened, the celebration wound down. But the memories lingered—the laughter, the camaraderie, and the shared passion for unravelling the past.
So here’s to 35 years of discovery, friendship, and preserving our heritage. May the next chapter be as rich and rewarding as the ones that came before.
The Campbelltown District Family History Society extends its heartfelt gratitude to all who attended and contributed to this memorable event.
Special thanks to Campbelltown and Airds Historical Society for the use of the grounds at Glenalvon and to our Librarian Gail Algie for all her behind the scenes efforts to ensure that all went smoothly.
